Juan Manuel Santos y Barack Obama se reunirán el próximo 4 de febrero

The White House confirmed on Tuesday December 29, 2015 that the presidents of the United States, Barack Obama, and of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, will meet February 4, 2016 in Washington, D.C.

Continue reading

Gun ownership is both a basic American right and one of the most contentious social and political issues of the day. — December 5, 2015

Gun ownership is both a basic American right and one of the most contentious social and political issues of the day.

johnlennonLet me tell you a  fairy tale about a Pakistani girl who emigrated to Saudi Arabia with her father.  Years later she finds her Prince Charming, an American, marries him.  She gives birth to a child in the United States of America.  Let’s assume the Prince is the father and let’s not ask Maury Povich to do a paternity test on his show.  Couple lives happily ever after. The end.  No.  Not quite like that.  Six months later the baby is an orphan.  The couple, leave their six-month-old baby daughter with relatives, two hours later the couple is killed in a shootout with police SWAT team members.

End the Gun Epidemic in America

It is a moral outrage and national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency.

I’m in favor of not restricting responsible people from owning guns.  I have yet to see a gun kill anyone.  There is always a human behind the weapon who does the killing.  The gun is an instrument that needs to be issued with caution to people.  I believe we need a National Identity card where all information about an individual is available to the authorities who will decide if an individual is a candidate for gun ownership.  There should be a waiting period where the individual should attend mandatory safety classes.  If the individual fails to pass these classes  he loses the right to ownership and must forfeit all fees paid.

For all my friends who currently pay for “Medical” Insurance. If you’re over the hill and seeing the end in sight please take the pleasure to waste 5 minutes of your time while you smoke a stoogie and drink a beer. Read this article dated Tuesday, October 8, 2015 USA Today. The days will start to fly by so quickly, that all you will talk about is, the PAST. This is especially true of those who have lived with friends or family. Their children…flying the coop and starting to reproduce themselves. My only hope for the United States of America is that the Senators and Representatives start to live like the people of our great country. That they really start to represent the people before the “People” get tired of the style of comfort the “senators” currently enjoy. Will the people demand an end to Democracy?

How to navigate Medicare open enrollment season
Medicare beneficiaries need to review and change, if need be, their Medicare health plan.
USATODAY.COM
April might be the cruelest month, but Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 have to be the cruelest days of the year. That’s when Uncle Sam asks millions of Medicare beneficiaries to review and change, if need be, their Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year.

Here’s what you need to know to survive this year’s season.

“You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.” — March 5, 2014

“You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”

According to George Will, Lev Davidovich Bronstein supposedly said this while living in The Bronx.  Mr. Bronstein aka Leon Trotsky was a Russian Marxist, intellectual, and revolutionary. In the early Soviet Union, he founded the Politburo, served as People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs, and created and led the Red Army. After Lenin’s death, Trotsky was exiled for his opposition to Joseph Stalin‘s policies. His 1940 assassination in Mexico was allegedly carried out by a Soviet agent at Stalin’s behest.

I will recall once more Russia’s most recent history.  Above all, we should acknowledge that the collapse of the Soviet Union was a major geopolitical disaster of the century. As for the Russian nation, it became a genuine drama. Tens of millions of our co-citizens and compatriots found themselves outside Russian territory. Moreover, the epidemic of disintegration infected Russia itself.  Individual savings were depreciated, and old ideals destroyed.  Many institutions were disbanded or reformed carelessly.  Terrorist intervention and the Khasavyurt capitulation that followed damaged the country’s integrity.  Oligarchic groups — possessing absolute control over information channels — served exclusively their own corporate interests.  Mass poverty began to be seen as the norm.  And all this was happening against the backdrop of a dramatic economic downturn, unstable finances, and the paralysis of the social sphere. Many thought or seemed to think at the time that our young democracy was not a continuation of Russian statehood, but its ultimate collapse, the prolonged agony of the Soviet system. But they were mistaken. That was precisely the period when the significant developments took place in Russia. Our society was generating not only the energy of self-preservation, but also the will for a new and free life.

Thus we have in this corner, a little man wielding a big military to compensate for his hatred of homosexuals.  And in the other corner we have the craven countries of Europe who would prefer to give Crimea to Russia than to fight another war on their soil.  And to complete the trifecta we have Barack Obama, John Kerry and many Republicans and Democrats, using words and economic threats to try to force the Red Army to take steps back into the lands they barely control.

The UN Charter endorses the right of self-determination of all.  This self-determination of course is being influenced by all sides interested in creating conflict.

And I watch the scenes from the comfort of my well heated home in the United States of America, from oil bought from foreign lands.  My naive hope is that they all shake hands and exchange wives and concubines with each other.  There’s nothing uglier than watching relatives fight each other.  Since 1949, I’ve been waiting for a solution to a tricky problem created by the English and other nations in the Middle East.

From New York City to Patagonia bike rider hasn’t made contact with his family.

Unfortunately his last message was rather cryptic.  I don’t think the Mexican military would ever escort anyone out of any territory.  I’ve visited Mexico on many occasions and I happen to be able to communicate with them using their native language.  We’ve been stopped and asked to open the trunk of our vehicle at many checkpoints on a trip that took us through many states starting at Mexico City traveling through Veracruz, Palenque, Chichén Itzá, Cancún, some other cities in the mountains on the return trip and some coastal cities excluding Acapulco this time because of the floods that year.  We’ve been warned by many not to stop or pick anyone on the road.  We have stopped in the state of Chiapas where there was an opposition leader of the government, who was so famous, the Mexicans were selling his likeness to the tourists.  Nothing happened because we heeded their advice and we had also resolved not be taken in by anyone.  We weren’t going to give a bribe to any government official had we’ve been caught speeding through any city.  We were prepared to lose our dignity fighting for our dishonor or honor.  An hour-long escort out of some area, is not a good description of his awareness of his location.  This escort, naïvely followed was probably a kidnapping.  That he was lucky to be able to communicate with his girlfriend, at a rest stop for lunch, was his last cry for help. “Crazy military stuff” is not an apt description of Mexico’s military operations.  Hopefully Barack Obama is able to intercede for this family and bring back their adventurer.

Sarah Ashley Schiear last heard from Harry Devert in an ominous text via the WhatsApp messenger app.

“Just got an hour and a half long escort out of some area it was too dangerous for me to be,” the message said. “Stopping for lunch and … voilà Internet. … Gonna get back on the road soon. Apparently there’s another military escort waiting for me in some other town… I’m running way late because of the crazy military stuff…hopefully get a chance to talk to you tonight when I (hopefully) finally arrive.”

Because some areas in Mexico are reportedly unstable, those close to Devert fear he is in danger.

Ann Devert, Harry’s mom, heard from a friend who recently returned from Michoacan, where vigilante self-defense groups in numerous communities have engaged in deadly confrontations with the Knights Templar drug cartel.

After vigilantes threatened to descend on a key cartel area last month, the Mexican government sent in thousands of troops and police to try to keep the peace. The government has even joined forces with the vigilantes as the Knights Templar become further entrenched in the agricultural state.

The family feels Harry is alive and that he is waiting to be found.  He was last seen traveling to the town of Zihuatanejo.  The family is using Harry’s blog and other websites including  Facebook.com/helpfindharry.  Hopefully someone who is in the area has seen Harry and is also not afraid to contact the authorities.  It’s sad he was just enjoying life writing about his travels and that his adventure has been delayed by persons unknown.  Please help find Harry soon.  Reblog this to all your Mexican friends.  There is at least one person who saw Harry with the “military.”

Why Did I Think This Was Going to be a Great Game? What Was I Thinking? The Infographic Preview of Super Bowl XLVIII Did Not Lie! — February 2, 2014

Why Did I Think This Was Going to be a Great Game? What Was I Thinking? The Infographic Preview of Super Bowl XLVIII Did Not Lie!

Infographic Preview of Super Bowl XLVIII

The Broncos and the Seahawks were  just 4 hours from #SB48 kickoff, and I thought this match was going to be great.  I should have looked closely.   Statistics do not lie.  Again a Super Bowl disappointed me.  All the hype, the media covering just about every angle.  Even Michael Edward Eagan the Cardinal of New York gave a history lesson about Vince Lombardi, a Brooklyn raised lad who left New York City to make men of boys.  Then just before the game started, Bill O’Reilly finally met Barack Obama in a one-on-one interview.  The president of the United States of America, showing us his beautiful teeth, was able to deftly answer Bill O’Reilly’s questions.  I wonder if all the questions had been pre-screened by the staff at the White House?  This interview, which at times I thought was disrespectful, was also the highlight of the afternoon.  And just before the game started a very poignant reading of our Declaration of Independence, was read by those who have volunteered to defend our principles.  Included with those volunteers were the first responders of the last known terrorist attack on our soil.

The game then started and I thought the receiver was going to let the ball go over his head.  No!  The next play would set things straight.  Peyton Manning was in control, he moved to give another set of  signals and the center hiked the ball.  Obviously the quarterback wasn’t expecting the ball to be hiked.  His eyes bugged out as he watched the ball sail over his head.  The ball ended up in the end zone  in the hands of a Bronco.  The Broncos were going backwards.  A safety was called.  After only 14 seconds of play the score was already…Seahawks 2 Broncos 0.
