Donald Trump is now the third president in U.S. history to be impeached.

The big picture: The legislative ending seems clear — he’s headed for acquittal in the Senate as early as next month and won’t be removed from office. But this seals his place in history.

  • Trump could still win re-election next November and serve a second term. He’s the first impeached president in U.S. history who is both eligible to run for re-election and already guaranteed his party’s nomination.

Trump is being impeached for withholding aid to Ukraine to pressure its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, to announce an investigation into Joe Biden — the former vice president and Trump’s potential election rival — and Biden’s son, Hunter.

Details: The first of two articles of impeachment — abuse of power — was approved easily, 230-197. The second article, charging Trump with obstruction of Congress, was approved 229-198.

Paradoxically, extreme cold spells could become more frequent as the Arctic warms along with the rest of the planet. — February 2, 2019

Paradoxically, extreme cold spells could become more frequent as the Arctic warms along with the rest of the planet.

“The polar vortex is a low-pressure mass of cold air that swirls perpetually above Earth’s polar regions. There’s one in the Northern Hemisphere — the one responsible for the recent cold spell across the U.S. — and another in the Southern Hemisphere.

It’s normal for the Arctic polar vortex to expand in winter, bringing colder air to lower latitudes. But sometimes the polar vortex weakens, and the fast-moving current of air known as the Jet stream shifts, allowing the vortex to drift southward to cause unusually cold temperatures in those areas.

“That cold air that was stuck over the Arctic gets moved south, into the actual continental United States,” David Kanter, an assistant professor of environmental studies at New York University, told NBC News in a video interview.

Paradoxically, extreme cold spells could become more frequent as the Arctic warms along with the rest of the planet.

“Arctic warming leads to a weaker jet stream, which leads to more extreme winters,” Kanter said. So the notion that global warming would “rescue” us from cold weather extremes — something President Donald Trump alluded to in a recent tweet — is misguided. As Kanter put it, “We’re going to see more extremes as the climate continues to warm.”

The Aqua satellite has been orbiting Earth since 2002. Its instruments create a global map of atmospheric phenomena, including temperature and humidity, cloud heights and the concentrations of carbon dioxide and the other greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.”

Is this how the rest of the world view us? — December 1, 2017

Is this how the rest of the world view us?

Does the current president’s behavior make it worst for Americans to travel abroad?

vanities i am the swoosh donald trump hair

Having recently read Lionel Shriver’s book titled We Need to Talk about Kevin,  I had to think if what Ms. Shriver had written, described perfectly the “ugly American” who feels superior just because he was born in the United States.

The first observation she said of Americans is that they’re fat.  Yes it’s true some are overweight but not all Americans are fat.  However if we were describing the current president I would say he is a bit overweight.

She continues describing the American as inarticulate, ignorant, demanding, imperious, spoiled and self-righteous.  I’m beginning to think that this describes Donald Trump to a T.  The “ugly American” is the current president of the United States.

They feel superior about their precious democracy.  Yes, we do feel that way and we’ve destroyed Iraq, Syria, and other little countries to force them into becoming a Democracy.  Have we ever considered that Democracy doesn’t work for all the people of the world?  Nope!  We will instill it in all the nations we conquer because our cause is just.

Praise the power that hath made and preserv’d us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto – “In God is our trust,”  [Star Spangled Banner]

Condescending, boastful.  Yep, he is that!

Half the adult population doesn’t vote?  I estimated that in the 2016 election, a little over half the adult population voted and that of those who voted a little over half of them voted for the loser, Hillary Clinton.  How is this a precious democracy when the popular vote means nothing?

The results of the Electoral College confirmed that the winner of the last election was a man named Donald Trump and not a woman named Hillary Clinton who had attained a simple majority of the votes.

In  my travels I never ran into Americans who went to Harvard, who discussed anal sex at cocktail parties held at their big costly homes with all the celebrities they know.  That is pretty crass to foist on new acquaintances that you went to Harvard.

Since I don’t know Donald Trump, I can’t say that he enjoys anal sex, but I have heard him boasting about grabbing “pussy” because “they let him.”  He also doesn’t think The White House compares to Trump Tower or Mar-a-Lago.

Is he “trusting to a fault, innocent in a way that makes him stupid.  And worst of all, does he have no idea that the rest of the world can’t stand him?”

I don’t believe this last paragraph describes him perfectly because he’s already told Time Magazine that he doesn’t want to be named the Person of the Year.  We’re crossing the Rubicon because this is the first time I needed to talk about Donald.

Below are the three paragraphs of We Need to Talk about Kevin by Lionel Shriver

Kevin was doodling furiously on the tablecloth with his crayon.  “Anything else?”

“Of course there’s anything else,” I said, feeling the momentum that gets rolling in those plane chats when I finally get access to the library in my head, remembering Madame Bovary, and Jude the Obscure, and A Passage to India.  “Americans are fat, inarticulate, and ignorant.  They’re demanding, imperious, and spoiled.  They’re self-righteous and superior about their precious democracy, and condescending toward other nationalities because they think they’ve got it right─never mind that half the adult population doesn’t vote.  And they’re boastful, too.  Believe or not, in Europe it isn’t considered acceptable to foist  on new acquaintances right off the bat that you went to Harvard and you own a big house and what it cost and which celebrities come to dinner.  And Americans never pick up, either, that in some places it’s considered crass to share your taste for anal sex with someone at a cocktail party you’ve known for five minutes─since the whole concept of privacy here has fallen by the wayside.  That’s because Americans are trusting to a fault, innocent in a way that makes you stupid.  Worst of all, they have no idea that the rest of the world can’t stand them.”

I was talking too loudly for such a small establishment and such abrasive sentiments, but I was strangely exhilarated.  This was the first time that I’d been able to really talk to my son, and I hoped that we’d crossed the Rubicon.  At last I was able to confide things that I well and truly believed and not just lecture─please don’t pick the Corleys’ prize-winning roses.

WIRED: Convicted CIA Leaker John Kiriakou’s Got Some Opinions About WikiLeaks and Trump — April 27, 2017

WIRED: Convicted CIA Leaker John Kiriakou’s Got Some Opinions About WikiLeaks and Trump

Check out this great article I read on WIRED:

How does the Vault 7 leak look to a famous CIA whistleblower? It’s complicated.

  • TIME OF PUBLICATION: 10:00 AM.10:00 AM

JOHN KIRIAKOU KNOWS a lot about leaking classified information. He went to prison for it.

A former CIA agent who said too much about the Bush-era torture program, he’s also the first CIA leaker to go to jail for his trouble. Kiriakou served just under two years in federal prison, though before the Department of Justice offered a plea deal, it seemed more likely he’d serve as many as 45. Continue reading

Donald Trump is no Republican — September 7, 2016

Donald Trump is no Republican

“Individual liberty? Trump has displayed an authoritarian streak that should horrify limited-government advocates. This impulsive, unbridled New York real estate billionaire and reality-TV star wants to deport people who were born in the U.S. and don’t meet his standard for loyalty.”

“We have no interest in a Republican nominee for whom all principles are negotiable, nor in a Republican Party that is willing to trade away principle for pursuit of electoral victory.”

“Trump doesn’t reflect Republican ideals of the past; we are certain he shouldn’t reflect the GOP of the future.”

“Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote.”

Donald Trump Rally Turns Ugly: ‘Light The Motherf**ker On Fire!’ — December 15, 2015

Donald Trump Rally Turns Ugly: ‘Light The Motherf**ker On Fire!’

A Las Vegas rally for Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump turned ugly Monday night, the eve of a Republican presidential debate, after multiple protesters interrupted the candidate’s speech.

According to reporters at the event, held at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino, protesters clashed with security guards as they were escorted from the room. Some of the protesters appeared to be Black Lives Matter activists and gun control supporters.

At one point, as security guards attempted to remove a black man from the rally, an attendee said, “Light the motherfucker on fire!”
